St. Rita's Case Study: More Time for Patient Care, 75% ROI

st-ritas-case-study-kit-checkDevoting more time to patient care was the driving force behind St. Rita’s decision to implement Kit Check. The pharmacists at St. Rita’s, a 425-bed hospital in Lima, Ohio, were spending two hours a day manually double-checking expiration dates on pharmacy tray medications. “We just felt like we could use our time in a more clinical manner. We could be out visiting patients or clinical dosing,” said Pharmacy Supervisor Lisa Brady, PharmD.

St. Rita’s cut pharmacist processing time by 79.6%, which is about 730 pharmacist man hours saved per year, after implementing Kit Check. The Ohio State Board of Pharmacy approved that Kit Check users could eliminate the pharmacist double check process of tray medications. In addition to time savings, St. Rita’s also reduced errors and cut medication waste due to expiration, resulting in a 75% ROI in the first year.

St. Rita’s Medical Center went on to present a poster sharing the positive results at last year’s ASHP Midyear meeting. To read about the full results, including savings and ROI data, download the case study by clicking the button below.
