Video Explainer – Using a Decentralized Workflow for Anesthesia Kit and ADC Restocking

Last week, we walked through the centralized anesthesia restocking process. Today, we have an overview of an alternative approach used by some hospitals — OR restocking using a decentralized strategy. In this workflow, Kit Check automates the restocking process with fully stocked drawer liners that can be replenished in seconds, directly in the OR. Here’s how it works:

  • First, a mobile cart with a Kit Check scanning station and replacement medications is wheeled to the OR.
  • Next, the used anesthesia tray is removed from the OR cabinet or workstation
  • Then, a technician scans the used anesthesia tray to determine what items are missing or need to be removed and restocks it from the mobile cart based on the scan results.
  • The restocked tray is then rescanned for accuracy and returned to the workstation or cabinet.

This decentralized workflow for OR restocking of automated and non-automated anesthesia workstations can reduce excess inventory, save significant staff time, and dramatically improve accuracy. Each scan takes just five seconds and the entire restocking process about 2-3 minutes. Studies have shown this process is 99.5% more accurate than traditional manual methods.
