Kit Check Joins End Drug Shortages Alliance

Coalition aims to address drug shortages in the U.S., which hospital pharmacists identify as the #1 issue currently facing organizations

Alexandria, VA, November 22, 2022 – Kit Check, the leading automation vendor in Medication Intelligence™, announced today it has joined a new coalition of diverse stakeholders to address drug shortages in the United States. The End Drug Shortages Alliance provides a forum for key stakeholders to take strategic aim at one of healthcare’s more pressing and enduring issues, drug shortages that disrupt patient care. According to Kit Check’s annual Hospital Pharmacy Operations Report, hospital pharmacists report that drug shortages are the number one issue currently facing their organization.

“Drug shortages continue to impact care and care delivery,” said Kevin MacDonald, CEO and co-founder of Kit Check. “As a member of the alliance, we will work to develop strategies that all market participants can agree on to address issues contributing to these shortages. We are actively working on shortage software that will integrate data and decision support tooling from the gold standards of shortage signaling in the market, FDA, and ASHP to help hospitals prioritize and respond to impactful shortages.”

The End Drug Shortages Alliance was launched in late 2021 to bring together industry stakeholders, including providers, group purchasing organizations, manufacturers, distributors, and other industry thought leaders and champions. Efforts will focus on improving access to medications through greater transparency across market participants, leading to improved quality manufacturing of medications and production of additional supply.

“We are grateful to have Kit Check join the alliance to end drug shortages,” said Eric Tichy, division chair of pharmacy supply solutions for Mayo Clinic, who serves as the Chair for the Alliance advisory board. “Collaboration among organizations strengthens our ability to improve the quality of life for patients that rely on these medications. Together, we can make a difference.”
